Defender GO Continuous 24/7 | FAQs
Do I need a microSD card?
A microSD card (up to 256 GB) is required for local recording. If no SD card is installed, your camera can use the available paid cloud recording options. Without a cloud plan or SD card, no recordings will be stored.
For the best protection of your recordings, we recommend using a microSD card together with a cloud storage subscription. Cloud recording backs up your important event footage, keeping it safe even if your camera is stolen or your SD card is damaged, and allows you access to playback from anywhere — even when your camera is offline.
How do I format my SD card?
From the Live View screen, tap the Settings icon, select Recording Settings, then choose Format SD Card. The camera uses FAT32 format.
Why did my camera stop recording?
A few things can cause your camera to stop recording. If it stopped suddenly without any settings changes, check the following:
- Battery level – When the battery falls below 15%, the camera automatically enters Sleep Mode. Live View and Playback remain available, but recording is disabled until the battery is recharged. If the battery has fully drained, the camera will need to be charged before it comes back online.
- Working Mode – In Power Saving Mode, the camera only records when motion or an event is detected. If there has been no activity, no recordings will appear. In Continuous Recording (AOV) mode, the camera automatically adjusts performance based on the current battery level.
- Events setting – If Events is turned off, the camera will not detect or record any motion activity. Check this under Settings > Events.
- SD card issues – If you're using local recording, the SD card may be defective. Try formatting it under Settings > Recording Settings and replace it if the problem continues.
- Cloud service status – If cloud recordings are missing, verify your cloud subscription is still active under Cloud Storage.
Why am I receiving so few notifications?
There is no limit to how frequently the app can push notifications. If you're receiving fewer than expected, check the following:
- Minimum Recording Interval – Under Settings > Events > Event Recording, a higher interval reduces how often notifications are sent. Lower the interval to receive more frequent alerts.
- Motion Detection Sensitivity – If the camera isn't picking up motion, increase the Motion Detection Sensitivity. Keep in mind that higher sensitivity increases battery consumption.
- Camera placement – The camera's PIR sensor has a range of up to 10 m (32 ft). If the camera is too far from the activity zone, it will not detect motion.
- Camera angle and positioning – Position the camera so people move across its live view rather than directly toward or away from it. PIR sensors are more sensitive to side-to-side movement.
Why am I not receiving notifications at all?
If you're not receiving any notifications, check the following:
- Events – Make sure Events is enabled under Settings > Events.
- Notifications – Make sure Notifications is enabled in the Event Settings.
- App permissions – Make sure the app has permission to send push notifications in your phone's settings.
- Detection schedule – Under Events, verify the detection schedule covers your desired detection period. If the current time falls outside the scheduled window, no events will be detected.
How do I reduce excessive alerts?
If you're getting too many notifications, try the following:
- Alert on people only – Under Events > Alarm Event, turn off Motion Detected and keep Person Detected on. This ensures only human activity is pushed.
- Set a detection area – Use Detection Area to filter out motion from trees, shadows, or traffic you don't wish to be alerted about.
- Increase the Minimum Recording Interval – Under Settings > Events > Event Recording, raise the interval for high-traffic areas with continuous motion activity.
- Reduce Motion Detection Sensitivity – Lowering the sensitivity makes the camera less likely to trigger on minor movement.
- Set a detection schedule – Under Events, verify the detection schedule matches your desired detection period so the camera only detects during the times you want.
Can I set up more than one detection area?
Only one detection area can be configured per camera. You can resize and reposition it at any time under Events > Detection Area.
How many people can I share my camera with?
You can share your camera with up to 99 users. Each shared user's permissions can be managed individually under Device Sharing.
I moved my camera to a new location. Do I need to set it up again?
It depends on whether the camera is still online:
- Camera is still online – Go to Settings > Network Settings, select the new Wi-Fi network, and enter its password. The camera will switch networks without needing to be deleted or reset. For best results, switch networks before moving the camera while it's still connected.
- Camera is already offline – The Network Settings feature won't work once the camera has lost connection. Delete the device from the app, then re-add it to your account by scanning the QR code sticker on the camera or the pairing QR code saved to your phone album during the initial setup.
I accidentally deleted my camera from the app. How do I add it back?
You can re-add the camera by scanning the QR code sticker on the camera, or by using the pairing QR code saved to your phone album during setup – handy if the camera is mounted out of reach.
Do I need a cloud subscription to use my camera?
No. With a microSD card installed (not included, sold separately), your camera records locally at no additional cost. A cloud subscription also unlocks faster playback, enriched notifications with event snapshots, and additional detection types, such as vehicle detection.
What do the colors on the playback timeline mean?
Blue segments are motion events and orange segments are human events. A fast-forward symbol indicates a low frame rate recording; no symbol indicates a high frame rate recording.
Can recordings be downloaded?
Only cloud recordings can be downloaded and deleted via the app. Downloaded cloud recordings, manually recorded videos, and screenshots are saved to the Album, which can be found on the Account page of the app.
