Choosing a Location
Follow these guidelines to choose the best location for your camera and mount it securely.
Tips for Camera Placement
- Select a location for your camera that has a strong Wi-Fi signal.
- Ensure the camera has a clear, unobstructed view of the surveillance area and is positioned within 32 ft (10 m) of key activity zones.
- For best motion detection, position the camera so people move across its view rather than directly toward or away from it. PIR sensors are more sensitive to side-to-side movement.
- For best human detection accuracy, install the camera 6–10 ft (2–3 m) from the ground, at a 15°–30° downward angle.
Aim for a 15°–30° downward angle, mounted 6–10 ft (2–3 m) high, with your optimal motion-detection zone within 32 ft (10 m) of the camera.
Additional Placement Tips
- To reduce false alerts outdoors, avoid pointing the camera directly at swaying trees, bright lights such as sunlight or street lamps, or vehicles and pedestrians on the road. For indoor use, keep the camera away from air vents and heat outlets.
- Do not install the camera facing a mirror, glass, or walls at a close distance, as this can cause glare.
- The camera's PIR sensor cannot detect motion through window glass. Do not place the camera indoors to monitor motion outside.
Mounting the Camera
- Position the camera drilling template on your chosen mounting spot. Drill the pilot holes over the drilling template, then remove the template from the wall surface.
- Use the included mounting screws and wall anchors to secure the mounting base to the wall.
- Screw the camera to the mounting base and adjust the camera arm to your desired angle.
- Twist the knobs to secure the camera arm in position.
The camera can be used on its own with the base (not mounted), wall mounted, or ceiling mounted.
Solar Panel Placement (if included)
- Choose a location for your solar panel that gets the most sunlight throughout the year. For maximum energy production, mount the panel at a tilt roughly equal to your latitude plus 5°, facing the equator — south in the Northern Hemisphere, north in the Southern Hemisphere.
- Find a location where the solar panel receives direct sunlight. The amount of energy produced depends on weather, season, and geographic location.
- Do not install the solar panel completely horizontally. Angling it helps prevent the buildup of dust, snow, or debris that could reduce charging. Cleaning the panel regularly is recommended.
Mounting the Solar Panel
- Position the solar panel drilling template on your chosen mounting spot. Drill the pilot holes over the template, then remove it from the wall surface.
- Use the included mounting screws and wall anchors to secure the mounting base to the wall.
- Screw the solar panel to the mounting base and adjust it to your desired angle. Twist the knobs to secure the panel in position.
- Connect the cable from the solar panel to the charging port on the bottom of the camera. Push the cable connector firmly into the port until it is securely plugged in.
